Classroom America

To work in the UK, you must have permission – it is not enough to simply be Canadian! In order for Classroom Canada to help you in your job search, it is best that you have already researched what kind of visa you are eligible for.

Start with the British High Commission website and see what you can apply for. There is a massive amount of information in there, so here are some quick points. Make sure you rely on their website though, as these things often change!

Youth Mobility
Most of our teachers arrive in the UK on this visa
Applicants must be 30 years old or younger
Applicants must be Canadian citizens
If granted this visa, you can live and work in the UK for up to 2 years

Ancestry Visa
If you have a grandparent who was born in the UK, then you can apply for this visa, which will allow you to work and live in the UK for up to 5 years.

EU Passport
If you have a British passport, or a passport for any of the EU countries, then you can teach in the UK without a visa. You need to contact the British High Commission with any questions.

Tier 1 (General) Skilled Visa
Is designed to allow people with a high level of skills to work in the UK
Is awarded on a points system
Apply through the UK High Commission website.

Work Permits
If you do not fit into any of the above visa categories, then your only other option is to try to obtain a position in which your employer will sponsor you. As a teaching agency, Classroom Canada is usually unable to help with this, but you can still apply. We will discuss the likelihood of this option with you.
